Grassholme Cup (Please note change!)

As the winds were too strong for sailing on Sunday 29th August we have postponed this event to the following Sunday September 5th.

This will give the opportunity for those sailors who were still on holiday on 29th to join in.

This is our biggest sailing event of the year and decides the club champion.  This is the culmination of the Summer sailing season and we hope that all members take note of the date and attend so that we can make it a special occasion.

There are three races 1200hrs, 1400hrs and 1500hrs.  The third race follows on from the second race.

Even if you don't feel able to sail please turn up and make this a club celebration.  We will have cakes available for the afternoon to go with the cup presentation.

Teesdale Sailing Club is located at Grassholme Reservoir in the heart of Teesdale in County Durham, North East England, ‘England's best kept secret’. Our catchment area includes Middleton-in-Teesdale, Barnard Castle, Durham, Wearside, Darlington, Teesside and Richmond in North Yorkshire.

The club enjoys 140 acres of excellent sailing water amidst beautiful countryside that has been designated an area of outstanding natural beauty.

On shore club facilities comprise a clubhouse with changing rooms, kitchen area and clubroom,  boat park and spacious grounds with fine views across the reservoir. Nearby are the Northumbrian Water visitor centre, and ample parking. Footpaths encircle the reservoir providing access for fishing, bird watching and walking.

On the water the club provides safety boat facilities on Sundays, and on Wednesday evenings in May, June, July and August. There are also club boats (two Laser Picos and a GP 14) available for use by members.

Racing is organised in series and takes place on Sundays throughout the season, with two handicap races on each day. In addition there are special events such as the Grassholme Cup, and pursuit racing to add variety. The club accepts any type of dinghy or windsurfer with Miracles, Lasers and Laser Picos being popular at the moment. Proficient windsurfing members of the club may sail at Selset Reservoir, which in the opinion of many is the best inland, high wind venue in the north of England.

Friendly help and advice are always available for those new to sailing and sailing courses are arranged during the summer to introduce new people to the pleasures of the sport.

For further details explore our website, phone a committee member (see Contacts web page), or call in at the club one Sunday.
